I am motivated by solving problems, taking care of others, and making my team and my managers look good. I believe that if a company treats their employees well, then they will treat the customers the same way. This in turn leads to a successful and prosperous company, and everyone wins. This is not to say there is no need for discipline when someone does wrong, but a manager must also remember to give praise when things are done right.
It is this philosophy that drives me. I have worked in environments that have found that balance, and others which have not. I can attest that the firms who value their employees not only have happier and more productive staff, but have greater employee and customer retention, and accomplish far more than their counterparts. My goal is to help more people find this nirvana by growing my role in organizations to make a bigger difference for more people. My greatest reward is when an employee’s spouse thanks me for making their home life better, through making the employee’s work life better.
I grew up in in Moline, IL, graduated school from there, and received an Associates in Electronics from Black Hawk College.
I moved to Texas, and briefly attended Texas A&M for electrical engineering. I was working full time and trying to take a full class load. It became too much. However, I did get a job with McCaw Communications installing and repairing cell phones. This was in the early days of cellular.
I moved to Austin and continued to advance my career in wireless: moving into network engineering, then management for AT&T Wireless Services. I also began taking classes part-time at UT Austin for electrical engineering, but eventually work got in the way. My job required me to be in the office, so I postponed my education.
I spent decades in telecommunications, and have made great friends in the industry. It is exciting being in a field that is constantly changing: new technologies coming out, new services, new challenges. It is a fast-paced environment, to be certain.
Only an engineer would take this picture. It’s the antennas at the top of what’s probably the world’s most famous tower.
Here’s another picture, but from further away. Yes, I really took pictures of antennas on top of the Eiffel Tower, but even funnier is that once I was done, I noticed several other tourists doing the same.
Later I moved to Dallas to help MetroPCS launch cell service in the metroplex. They were eventually acquired by T-Mobile, and I worked for them two more years. By now, I realized I enjoyed business and management. I decided I wanted to go back to school, but decided to change my major from engineering to business. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from UT Dallas in 2018 with a BS in Business Administration. I then went on to earn both an MBA and a Masters of Science in Finance there in 2020.
To make sure I had the time to attend classes, I left T-Mobile and started my own company with some business partners. We launched Insane Capital Investments, LLC as a holding company for the many entrepreneurial ideas we had. It is rewarding, and challenging, to build a company from the ground up. We looked forward to creating a culture that employees would embrace.
Elephants Remember was our first venture. It was an ecommerce company that specialized in gifts, event reminders, and providing suggestions as to what your gift recipients might like. We thought there were too many of us who didn’t know what to buy the special people in our lives, and we tried to solve that problem. Unfortunately we were unable to establish agreements with the product venders we wanted to work with.
Two of us from Insane founded Forturi Capital to invest in real estate by buying and renovating homes. Flipping houses is a lot of work, but it gave me the ability to finish my graduate courses at UTD. Once I graduated, I returned to working in wireless telecommunications.
